For those who grew up watching Little Miss Sunshine or any of the comedies by the Coen Brothers, will (in all probability) not be provoked/triggered/scandalised with the idea of a corpse travelling with a bunch of strangers in a van. That’s exactly, what is happening in Akarsh Khurana’s Karwaan, which sees Malayalam actor Dulquer Salmaan and Mithila Palkar making their debuts alongside Irrfan.
But then, that doesn’t mean Bollywood and Irrfan shouldn’t be applauded for entering the risky territory of screwball comedy, for a second consecutive time after the promising-yet-underwhelming Blackmail.
The star of the show here is without doubt the blue-eyed boy from down under, Dulquer, who has chosen a confident mix of films ranging from Mani Ratnam’s OK Kanmani to Rajeev Ravi’s Kammatipadam. For him to choose this as his Bollywood debut has surely piqued the interest of many.

Irrfan, who has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and is currently undergoing treatment, will surely leave a lump in the throat of some of his fans, with his sheer effortlessness in the film’s trailer.
YouTube star and millennial icon, Mithila Palkar is perfect casting as she gives the trio some necessary spunk.
Akarsh Khurrana recently made his debut with the Summet Vyas-starrer High Jack, which claimed to be India’s first stoner-comedy. The film was critically panned for its outlandishly juvenile humour, and found few takers among the audience. Can he redeem himself and make a film that is deserving of his interesting cast? We’ll have to wait and watch.
Here’s the trailer for Karwaan:
It has some really fun dialogues, but will the chemistry and the banter feel more than just #relatablecontent something Palkar has been more than a part of in the web space? Let’s hope the movie lives up to the promise of this trailer.
