Last Friday saw the release of Rana Daggubati – Taapsee Pannu starrer The Ghazi Attack at the Chennai Box Office. Directed by debutant Sankalp Reddy and jointly produced by Bollywood director-producer Karan Johar and AA Productions, the film is touted to be India’s first under water war film. Though the film opened to positive reviews from the critics, it struggled to beat Suriya starrer Singam 3, which had a great run even on its second weekend.
On its opening weekend, The Ghazi Attack was screened in 14 screens with 85 shows across the city. The film had registered 90% occupancy and has minted Rs 20 lakh in three days, which is good considering the limited number of screens the film had in its opening weekend.
Suriya’s Singam 3 continued its dominance at the Chennai Box Office on its second weekend as well. The action-thriller, which had collected Rs 3.6 crore on its opening week was rock steady on its second weekend despite the new release, The Ghazi Attack. On its second-weekend, the Suriya starrer was screened in 23 screens with 300 shows across the Chennai Box Office. Singam had minted Rs 90 lakh on its second weekend taking its total collections to Rs 4.5 crore at the Chennai Box Office.
Akshay Kumar starrer Jolly LLB 2 emerged as the surprise hit of the year at the Chennai Box Office. The film had managed to survive the Singam 3 wave and has registered a good occupancy on its second weekend as well. Jolly LLB 2 has so far collected nearly Rs 50 lakh at the Chennai Box Office.
