One of the much-awaited Tamil releases of 2017, Suriya-starrer Singam 3 has released on 9th February. Directed by Hari and produced by Gnanavel Raju, the film stars Anushka Shetty and Shruti Haasan as the female leads. The music of the film has been composed by Santhosh Narayanan of Kabali fame. Expectations from the trade are sky high as the entire Tamil industry is waiting with a bated breath for the first clean hit of the year after an average performance of Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Bairavaa and last week’s release, Arvind Swamy-Jayam Ravi starrer Bogan.
Here are 5 reasons why we think Singam 3 will be the first clean Tamil hit of 2017:
1. Release timing
Singam 3 is probably the first Tamil release which had faced so many struggles to fix its proper release date. The film was earlier scheduled to hit the screens on Diwali last year but got postponed until December 16 to avoid a clash with Suriya’s brother Karthi’s Kaashmora. Singam 3 was again postponed to Christmas 2016 as per Ram Charan’s request. Ram Charan-starrer Dhruva was released on 8th December. The Suriya-starrer couldn’t make it into the cinemas as Christmas release because of the destruction that happened across Tamil Nadu due to Cyclone Varadha. The makers again announced the release date on 26th January 2017, on Republic day weekend. But luck was not in favour of Singam 3 as the makers had to postpone the film to January 9 following the Jallikkattu issue in Tamil Nadu. After all the hurdles, Singam 3 was released yesterday.
Singam franchise
Singam 3 also marks the third film in the popular Singam franchise. The brand Singam is not only popular in South India, but also in North. The first two films in the series, Singam and Singam 2 were remade featuring Ajay Devgn in Bollywood as well. Singam is one of the most successful franchise in Tamil industry as well.
Suriya as Durai Singam
Singam 3 also marks the return of Suriya in one of his most loved avatar, as DSP Durai Singam. The first part, Singam was a blockbuster while the sequel, Singam 2 was a hit at the Box Office. Singam 2 also marked the Tamil superstar’s maiden Rs 100 crore grosser worldwide. The actor will be looking for his third Rs 100 crore hit in Singam 3 as his previous release, the sci-fi thriller, 24 was also a Rs 100 crore success at the Box Office worldwide.
Fast paced action & punch dialogues
Singam series is known for its fast-paced action sequences and punch dialogues. And the director Hari made no changes this time, and from Singam 3 trailer, it was well evident that the film will be an action packed entertainer with the same formulas. Check out the trailer here:
Arrival of a new villain
Singam 3 marks the debut of a bodybuilding champion and TV actor Thakur Anoop Singh. The actor, who made his TV debut with the role of the blind king Dhritarashtra in the hit Mahabharata series, is playing the character of the main antagonist in Singam 3. Anoop is best known for bagging gold in the 2015 World bodybuilding champion in Thailand. Also, Anoop is making a lot of noise ever since the trailer of Singam 3 released. And from the promos, the actor looks like a perfect opponent for Suriya in Singam 3. The film’s prequel, Singam 2 has been criticised heavily for its poor casting of the villain—the British actor, Danny Sapani.
