Dharmesh Yelande who is more popularly known as Dharmesh Sir is the perfect example of rags to riches. Anyone who has been following dance in the last few years would know how Dharmesh carved a niche for himself. He is currently seen as a mentor on Dance Plus 3, but way before this, he trained dance lovers.
Before he auditioned for Dance India Dance Season 2, Dharmesh’s students had already impressed the judges- Remo D’ Souza, Geeta Kapoor and Terence Lewis, with their skills. Almost all the performances which left the judges in awe, most of them were Dharmesh’s students. So, when he himself came to audition, the judges were obviously impressed. But, the stardom which now Dharmesh enjoys did not happen overnight. He struggled for 18 years before he got recognition as a choreographer. Though Dharmesh had already won Boogie Woogie, he once said it was DID 2 which became the turning point. “The show gave me a position, it ascribed certain credibility to my work and to me as a person – after the show I started getting offers for choreography,” Dharmesh had once said.

When Dharmesh made the decision to move from Baroda to Mumbai to pursue dance as a career, his parents were obviously shocked. It was his brother who supported Dharmesh and ensured his dream was fulfilled. A look at Dharmesh’s trajectory and it is right to say that he did his family proud.
As the mentor of Dance Plus 3, Dharmesh ensures the participants push their boundaries and get better with each performance. Before the first season of Dance Plus started, Dharmesh spoke about it in an interview. He had said,
The makers of the show have given us full freedom to be ourselves, as mentors and judges to the participants. In fact, the participants too have the freedom to do what they want to do – if they are a Kathak dancer, they can perform Kathak throughout the show by innovating within the dance form or switch to learn a new form – it is all up to them.
It is hard to argue with Dharmesh on this. The show has redefined how reality TV show are treated. A large part of this credit goes to the mentors and also Dharmesh. Over the years we have seen he has challenged participants which only leads them to become better dancers. But as much as one gives credit Dharmesh for this, he says his stardom and success is because of Remo D’Souza. He had once said:
Remo D’Souza sir is like a family member to me now. From Dance India Dance to his movies ABCD and ABCD 2 and Dance Plus it has been a wonderful professional bond with him. I have learnt a lot of things from him and he has supported me a lot.

The statements of Dharmesh are a further testimony of how humble he is , and to top it all, he’s one marvelous dancer!
Do we need to give more reasons to love him? Dharmesh is definitely an institution of his own kind.
