Recently, Karan Johar became a proud father of twins Roohi and Yash through surrogacy and the filmmaker is delighted to have this new addition in his life. Not just Karan Johar, but many other Bollywood and TV celebs have chosen surrogacy to experience parenthood, including names like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Tusshar Kapoor.
And just when the news of TV’s popular couple Gurmeet Choudhary and Debina Bonnerjee becoming parents came in the news, everybody thought that they have also gone for surrogacy. But to our surprise, the couple has adopted not one but two girls from Gurmeet’s hometown Bihar.
Gurmeet and Debina have been married for past 6 years and the decision to adopt the girls was mutual. The duo is really happy and excited about being parents of two beautiful girls. The couple met Rooja and Lata, aged six and nine from Jarampur, at a family function in 2014.
Gurmeet’s parents – mother Anmol and father Sitaram are settled in that village and that’s where Pooja, an orphan, was living with her uncle and first cousin Lata. But last year Lata’s father passed away and the two girls moved in with a distant relative.
“After hearing about their plight from my mother, I discussed them with my wife. Debina agreed with me that it was time to give the kids a home, a deserving education and my last name,” says Gurmeet. Initially, Gurmeet says the plan was to support the girls financially but he later decided to adopt them.
Both Debina and Gurmeet have decided to bring the girls to Mumbai next year, as they want Lata and Rooja to attended another academic year in Jarampur. During this one year, the couple has decided to visit the girls 3-4 times and will also stay with them during their summer vacations.
