With four big budget films crossing Rs 100 crore mark in box-office earnings in the first quarter of 2017, Bollywood is off to a good start this year. Hopes are thus high from the upcoming slate of movies, starting with filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli’s southern magnum opus Baahubali 2: The Conclusion.
Sequel to Baahubali: The Beginning, the film’s trailer has already crossed 100 million views across four languages and has become the most viewed Indian film trailer on YouTube. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion will release in over 6,500 screens across various languages and it is being said that just like its prequel, the film is surely going to break many records.
In fact, despite being a blockbuster and earning Rs 600 crore at the worldwide box office, Baahubali: The Beginning didn’t earn any profit. It is being said that the overall budget of both the Baahubali films was around Rs 450 crore and the makers already shot a major chunk of the second instalment even before the release of the first one.
In an interview with indianexpress.com, film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi told that the makers invested the whole amount in both the instalments combined and are now looking for revenues from both the films. Her further added: ”The theatrical rights revenue of both films will be around Rs 600 crore. So makers are going to earn a bare minimum of Rs 150-200 crore of profit.”
In an interview with IANS, trade analyst Taran Adarsh said, ”Baahubali would be a great treat. The film was a tremendous craze. I don’t think in recent times any film has generated such curiosity. It will be a fabulous period from April till December as we have so many big projects lined up.”
Starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah Bhatia, Anushka Shetty, Ramya Krishnan and Sathyaraj, Baahubali: The Conclusion will release worldwide in IMAX on April 28 this year.
