The trailer we have all been waiting for with bated breath is finally here. Ocean’s 8, renamed from Ocean’s Ocho and Ocean’s Eight, oozes coolness from the word go.
The movie, a sequel and spin-off from the Ocean’s trilogy, was in the spotlight after announcing an all-women cast after the trilogy’s lead George Clooney, playing Danny Ocean, wanted “to go out strong” after Ocean’s Thirteen‘s success.
The first visual in Ocean’s 8 is of Sandra Bullock in an orange prison jumpsuit waiting to hear about her parole plea. While she says she wants “a simple life” and nods along, claiming to understand that “parole is a privilege”, she’s dreaming about her life outside the jail. The visuals that follow give us a glimpse of all the not-so-nice adventures she has planned for herself.
The trailer exudes sophistication like all the films in the Ocean series with snappy shots that leave us hankering for more. Introducing all the characters one after the other, the movie focuses on Bullock as Debbie Ocean, who is the estranged sister of Danny Ocean (played by George Clooney in the Ocean’s movies), in the female-led heist comedy.

The movie focuses on Debbie’s plan to steal a $150 million necklace belonging to Daphne Kluger (Anne Hathaway) at New York City’s annual Met Gala. The reason the heist has to happen is simple like Debbie says in the trailer, “She’s good at it.”
The movie, which releases on June 8, 2018, has already generated a lot of interest since the ensemble cast — Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Awkwafina, Sarah Paulson and Helena Bonham Carter — was announced.
After watching the trailer, we wonder when Indian filmmakers would take a chance on movies with an all-women ensemble. The only movies that probably come close with strong plot points and a women-centric theme are Ashanti (1982) and Lajja (2001) and perhaps the upcoming Veere Di Wedding.
