If the first teaser of Bhavesh Joshi Superhero left you wondering why the Udaan filmmaker’s making a Daredevil-ish film, the trailer is a reminder that it does not do to underestimate Vikramaditya Motwane. The flashy lights, bike chases, fisticuffs and a whole lot of angst — basically the way the teaser was packaged was enough to hoodwink us into thinking that Bollywood’s perhaps going the Marvel route. But the trailer has put all of those notions to rest and as well as revealed that at heart, Motwane’s films are always going to be more coming-of-age than ninja mutant.

Here we’re introduced to Harshvardhan Kapoor, who plays the titular role, and his two friends. The trio start ‘Insaaf TV’ to fight corruption in the most millennial way possible. Via a YouTube channel, in hand-drawn masks. Their youthful enthusiasm to do good AND rake up views and likes comes to a rather abrupt pause as they find themselves pitted against the powers that be and Bhavesh Joshi goes from your friendly neighbourhood ‘monitor’, to a full on vigilante.
Rather unfortunate that the trailer gives out as much as it does, but perhaps, like the teaser, the trailer too isn’t all that it seems. But for the record, we’re rooting for it.
Harshvardhan Kapoor’s acting prowess may not have left us stunned yet, but Motwane’s direction has. Often at that. And right about now, it does indeed look like he’s got the formula right for this one too.
