While JK Rowling’s Harry Potter prequel series Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them didn’t exactly sit well with Potterheads who kept wanting more. Ultimately, fans have taken matters into their own hands and this movie based on the origins of the Tom Marvolo Riddle aka Lord Voldemort is in the making and the first teaser is out. Last year, Tryangle Films had released a convincing and a little cringe-y concept trailer for the movie, which has been titled Voldemort: Origins of the Heir, in efforts to gain support from other willing fans.
As evident from the teaser, the film will focus on the life of Voldemort while he pursued his studies at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. While at Hogwarts, Voldemort, then known better as Tom, immersed himself in the ways of the Dark Arts. His extensive study of Horcruxes further pushed him down an unholy road as he craved for longevity and power.

The other central focus of the film will be a witch named Grisha Mac Laggen, the heir of Gryffindor (WHAT!). Following the mysterious death of one Hepzibah Smith, a descendant of the Hufflepuff family, Laggen penetrates deeper into the case to prove her suspicions regarding the involvement of dark magic. The mention of Smith might sound familiar to fans who have read JK Rowling’s books. The woman was in possession of Salazar Slytherin’s locket and Helga Hufflepuff’s cup, both of which were put to use as Voldemort’s Horcruxes.

The filmmakers were inspired to make the film upon going through Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince again. They felt it was important to understand what really pushed Tom Riddle to take up the garb of Lord Voldemort. And apparently, fans agree. Disappointment with the detachment of Fantastic Beasts from the original tale, Potterheads found solace in this new story which seems closer to the Harry Potter series.
