Watch: Trailer of I Am Heath Ledger drops, documentary looks set to tug at your heartstrings

The first trailer for I Am Heath Ledger, a documentary film based on the life of the deceased actor, has been released and it will move you to tears.

It has been nine years since Heath Ledger passed away yet memories of the legendary actor are still indelible in our minds. Ledger had delivered some of the most remarkable performances and won an Academy Award for his skilful portrayal of Joker in The Dark Knight, a role he is best remembered for. In movies like 10 Things I Hate About YouBrokeback Mountain and A Knight’s Tale, he has proven his versatility as an actor. However, being an actor has only been a pit stop in his journey towards his real dream.

Ledger was more into direction, as per the trailer of a new documentary based on the actor’s life. The trailer for the documentary titled I Am Heath Ledger feature interviews with close friends and some unseen footage of the actor.

Heath Ledger is best remembered for his performance as Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight.

I Am Heath Ledger will reveal the side of the actor which has stayed hidden from us all these years- the one behind the camera. “There were always cameras around—a video camera, or a Polaroid camera, or a film camera,” says model Christina Cauchi, who briefly dated the actor. “That’s the only way I think of him, with the camera in the hand,” she added.

“He was always a director. Acting was just a way to get there,” says his childhood friend Trevor Dicarlo in the trailer. The trailer also includes an interview with Ang Lee, who directed the pioneering film Brokeback Mountain, starring Ledger with Jake Gyllenhaal. The 2005 neo-western romantic drama film about two cowboys falling in love was a major breakthrough and earned Ledger his first nomination for an Academy Award.

Ledger passed away on January 22, 2008, due to intoxication from prescribed medications yet his personal life still remains unknown to his fans. The documentary film, which is a production of Spike TV, will be released on May 17, 2017.
