‘Ghoul’ to ‘Brijmohan Amar Rahe’, Netflix Is Bringing A Bunch Of Cool Stuff In August

Netflix India's second original series to a crime caper, there's a lot to look forward to it August!

It’s been a couple of years since the streaming services invaded our bedrooms, and ‘Netflix and chill’ became a legit excuse to not leave the house during holidays. Even as we’ve spent the better part of the year re-watching our favourite movies, TV shows and new documentaries, with Netflix we’ve barely scratched the surface.

And with a new month, there’s a whole new batch of releases and old classics being introduced on the streaming service. From India’s second Netflix original starring Radhika Apte to the latest Bourne film that you might have missed in the theatres because of the mixed reviews, here’s a list of things you SHOULD be looking forward to August:

1. Ghoul (August 24, 2018)
Netflix India’s second original series will see Radhika Apte and Manav Kaul join hands to fight evil forces in an army detention centre of a dystopian state. After Sacred Games, there are a few reasons for us to be excited about this one!

2. Ozark Season 2 (August 31, 2018)
Jason Bateman is returning to the director’s chair and chief money launderer for a Mexican cartel, as he tries to hold on to the brittle relationships and take on the locals at the Ozarks. Season 2 promises to be a wild ride for sure.

3. Brijmohan Amar Rahe (August 3, 2018)
Nikhil Bhat’s comedy-caper has been on the horizon for a while now, trying to get a theatrical release. And since it couldn’t manage that, the film is being released directly to Netflix. Like Cloverfield: Paradox.

4. Bhavesh Joshi Superhero (August 10, 2018)
Vikramaditya Motwane’s ambitious film about a ‘cottage industry superhero’ got mixed reviews and a super lukewarm response. And it was a real shame because it was hardly the worst film of the year. It’s now releasing on Netflix, and one can hope that a lot more people will watch it on a lazy Sunday afternoon and decide for themselves.

5. Flavors of Youth (August 4, 2018)
Netflix is releasing its first original Japanese anime with the studio that made the international phenomenon Your Name. Directed by Yoshitaka Takeuchi, the film promises to be a new genre for the Indian audience that’s not already tuned into anime films and shows.

6. Disenchantment (August 17, 2018)
The Simpsons creator Matt Groening has moved on from his iconic series and the controversy surrounding Apu, and promises to deliver one massive misadventure after another. Set in a kingdom called Dreamland, the show is centered around a particular Princess Bean.

7. Beyond The Clouds (August 10, 2018)
Majid Majidi’s maiden Hindi film didn’t necessarily wow the critics, but it delivered to us an enthusiastic Ishaan Khatter. The film might not have filled theatres, but there are a few magical moments in the film that are typical Majidi. You can always watch it for that.

8. The Good Place Season 2 (August 28, 2018)
Starring Kristen Bell and Ted Danson, the show’s first season explored afterlife and got glowing reviews for it. If the second season is half as good, it should be a job well done.

Returning classics (from August 1, 2018)

Iron Man – Jon Favreau’s film that kick-started the MCU phases and finally culminated with Infinity War, will make its way to the streaming platform. Bring back Terrence Howard!

Batman Begins – Chris Nolan’s first Batman film that built the foundation of the DC Extended Universe, will be available for streaming on Netflix. If you don’t binge the whole trilogy during the weekend, then what is even the point.

The Informant! – Steven Soderbergh is so chill and perfect at the same time, and that’s only he could have made a whimsically comical film like this one. Starring Matt Damon with a bald patch, this is a film that manages to be hilarious and shocking at the same time.

Jason Bourne – Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon’s last (apparently) collaboration was hardly a perfect film. But it got a lot of things right. The frenetic chase scenes, the seamless action and the lean, no-nonsense screenplay allows for a rather enjoyable film. If not in a theatre, it could definitely entertain you on a boring Sunday.

The Aviator – Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-nominated film starring Leonardo DiCaprio’s winning performance as Howard Hughes, will be gracing Netflix with its presence. Worth revisiting for sure.
