Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt has released the trailer of his first web-series Maaya, featuring Shama Sikander. And seems like he is back to doing what he does best. The series deals with the concept of BDSM, infidelity, and revenge in a relationship. A look at the trailer and it will take you back to Fifty Shades of Grey, the film which featured Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan in the lead.
While Maaya definitely seems heavily inspired by the EL James book, the additional drama of marriage and retrograde amnesia gives it an Indian touch. Also featuring Vipul Gupta and Veer Aryan, the series brings back Shama, who wasn’t really active on screen after her short TV stint in Bal Veer.
The trailer of the series opens with an erotic scene where submissive Maaya is seen giving herself away to her master. The two-minute 24-second video completely summarises the storyline. It also talks about a wife’s sexual commitment to her husband in marriage.
Maaya is Shama’s major on-screen outing after a huge gap of 11 years. She rose to fame from Sony Entertainment Television show—Ye Meri Life Hai where she played the character of Pooja, a small town girl in Mumbai. Of late, Shama also spoke out on battling depression. She made some life-inspiring revelations and also mentioned how her boyfriend, Alexx O’ Neil helped her to overcome that troublesome phase. She had said:
Alexx, who has a degree in Psychology, suspected that I had bipolar disorder and advised me to consult a doctor. But at that time, I didn’t want to get cured; I just wanted to give up. Though my life was going great, I was bored of it; nothing would impress or excite me. I even tried to commit suicide one night. I kissed my mother good night and told her not to wake me up. After that, I swallowed several sleeping pills at one go. Just before slipping away, I texted my brother my bank account details, which made him panic. He immediately called my mother to check on me and I was rushed to the hospital three hours later.
