Bollywood has had a history of casting a 40 something actor opposite a 20 something actress and everyone goes like, ‘oh, poor girl has to romance someone twice her age’, ‘that typically happens with actresses and their careers’ etc! Basically, we come to accept it over time. But what we recently found in TV serials baffled us because, this time, it has something to do with actors for a change.
The age gap between the actors who play father-son duo in the popular daily soaps was literally as bad as what happens in Bollywood. Besides, current shows like Ye Hai Mohabbatein, or Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, even famous TV shows which have now gone off the air (read Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi) had male actors with just slight age gaps playing on-screen fathers and sons.
Take a look at these eight amazing examples:
Raman Kumar Bhalla and Adi:
Even after a leap, the main lead Karan Patel is still playing a father to his grown-up kids. The Ye Hai Mohabbatein actor, who is 33, is playing dad to Abhishek Verma who is just 27 years, which means, the son is only 6 years younger to his on-screen father.
Shaurya Goenka and Rajnath:
Remember Ayyub Khan who played father to actor Vatsal Sheth in Star Plus’s show Ek Hasina Thi? While Vatsal is 37, Ayyub is 48 years old, which means the age gap between the two is just of 11 years.
Saras and Laxminandan Vyas:
Now, this one will definitely blow your mind. Gautam Rode aka Saras of Saraswatichandra was just a year younger than his on-screen father played by Chetan Pandit. Rode is 40, Pandit is 41.
Sahil Virani and Laksh Virani:
One of the most loved betas of the small screens, Sahil Virani aka Sandeep Baswana was 27 years old when he played father to Pulkit Samrat aka Laksh Virani in the show. Pulkit was just 21 back then. The age gap was just 6 years.
Mihir Virani and Gautam Virani:
In fact, the age gap between Ronit Roy and Sumeet Sachdeva in real life is just 10 years. While Ronit played Mihir Virani, Sumeet was Gaumzi aka Gautam Virani in the show.
Jetha Lal and Champak Lal Gada:
Do you know that Dilip Joshi who plays the role of Jetha Lal is actually older than his on-screen father, Champak Lal Gada, essayed by Amit Bhatt? Dilip is 49 and Amit Bhatt is 44.
Jagya and Bhairon Dharamveer Singh:
Balika Vadhu is the most talked about show of Colors TV, but you will be shocked after knowing the age difference between the on-screen father and his son. Anup Soni was 33 years old when he played father to Shashank Vyas aka Jagya, who was 22 years old.
Shivaay Singh Oberoi and Tej Singh Oberoi:
The popular show of Star Plus, Ishqbaaaz has Mahesh Thakur playing father to Nakuul Mehta. The age gap between the two in real life is just 13 years. While Mahesh is 47, Nakuul is 34.
Age is indeed a number, considering how these actors have been playing their characters with such ease for years now!
