Kanpur train accident: 2 dead 43 injured after 14 coaches of Ajmer-Sealdah Express derail

Just a month after 145 people died in Kanpur train tragedy, 14 coaches of Ajmer-Sealdah Express has derailed in Kanpur leaving several injured.

In a shocking incident, 14 coaches of train no 12988 Ajmer-Sealdah Express derailed on 28 December at Kanpur city of Uttar Pradesh. Initial reports suggest that 2 people have been killed and 43 people have been injured as yet.

The incident took place at about 5:20 am in the morning between Rura-Metha which is 50 kms from Kanpur. Rescue teams have been rushed to the spot and the injured are being taken to the nearby hospital. However, the cause of the derailment has not been ascertained as yet.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu took to Twitter to announce that he is personally monitoring the situation and medical assistance was been provided to the injured. Suresh Pradbhu further said that Ex gratia would be provided to the injured and that the government had directed CRB and other senior officials to ensure every kind of assistance.

“Personally monitoring the situation in wake of unfortunate derailment of Sealdah-Ajmer express near Kanpur. Thorough investigation will be carried out to ascertain the cause.Injured already started getting medical care, Doctors are attending to all. We are working with hospitals and district administration to offer all possible help,” the Railway Minister said.

A number other trains have been delayed or diverted because of the unfortunate incident.

The incident comes just a month after 145 people were killed and more than 200 were injured after Patna-bound Indore-Patna Express derailed near Pukhryan station near Kanpur. It is regarded as one of the worst railway disasters in the country.
