In what could be a major matter of embarrassment for the police force, a recent video has emerged that allegedly shows two police officers stealing melons and fleeing from the spot. The incident reportedly took place in the Jind area of Haryana at about 1: 30 AM.
The CCTV footage released shows two cops stealing melons when no one was visible around. You can see two motorcycle-borne cops picking up the rag full of melons from the sabzi mandi and leaving the spot. Not just this cops went on to thrash the guard with their stick who made an effort to stop them after noticing that they were stealing the melons. The CCTV footage shows the cops running behind the guard with a stick when he tries to stop them.
According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the Haryana cops have been identified as a special police officer (SPO) Sunehra Singh and home guard Pawan Kumar. Ironically, the night the incident occurred they were deployed to keep a check on crime incident in the area. The guard identified as Prem Bahadur also sustained injuries when one of the cops tried to beat him up with a stick. The incident came to light after Bahadur registered a complaint in the police station.
Following which, the senior officials launched an investigation into the matter and found the officers guilty. The daily reported that soon after the CCTV footage was released, the SP terminated the special police officer. The SP has also recommended the termination of the home guard since the guard division does not come under the category of the Haryana police.
