2009 Noida gangrape case: Delhi court acquits 9 accused over lack of evidence

The incident happened on January 5 in 2009, when the girl was returning from the Great India Place Mall in Noida with his friend and batch mate Amit Pawar.

A Delhi court on February 16 acquitted 9 persons accused of gang-raping an MBA student of Amity University due to lack of evidence. The incident happened on January 5 in 2009, when the girl was returning from the Great India Place Mall in Noida with his friend and batch mate Amit Pawar.

Earlier in November 2016, the Delhi High Court acquitted two accused in the case for lack of evidence citing inconsistency in statement of victim.

In his complaint with Noida police, the victim’s friend had alleged that they were returning home from the GIP mall and 11 bikers forced him to stop his car . After he stopped the car, they got into the car and drove it around near urban Noida village Garhi Chaukhandi and to rape his girl friend.

Earlier, the girl had told the court that she left India as even after registration of the case she was being threatened by the accused persons.

The trial of the case was shifted from a Noida court to Delhi on the Supreme Court’s order after Amit Pawar approached it, fearing threat to his life and facing pressure to withdraw the case.

Pawar had alleged that the accused, who were returning home after a cricket match, had forced him to stop his car by brandishing cricket bats.

After he stopped the car, they got into the car and drove it around near urban Noida village Garhi Chaukhandi and took turns to rape the girl.
