2012 Maruti Suzuki factory violence case: 31 people convicted, 117 acquitted by Haryana court

A local court in Haryana convicted 31 persons and acquitted 117 in connection with Maruti Suzuki factory violence case. They had been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, arson and rioting. The violence took place on July 18, 2012 in which a general manager was burnt alive. The riot began over a disciplinary issue with an employee.

On July 18, the violence started when a worker Jiya Lal was suspended for allegedly slapping a supervisor. The workers resorted to violence and set ablaze portions of the Maruti Udyog factory situated in IMT Manesar.

Earlier today, Gurugram administration imposed Section 144 imposed at certain places of the city to avoid any trouble after the verdict . The trail lasted for about four years.

“Armed with iron rods and door beams of cars, the mob spread out in groups in the factory area and targeted supervisors, managers and executives… rendering many of their victims bleeding and unconscious,” Maruti said in a statement.
