Twenty-four students of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) have been detained by Uttar Pradesh Police for allegedly plotting to break Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security cordon during an event that he is scheduled to attend in Lucknow, India Today reported. The UP Police has said that the arrests have been made following Intelligence inputs. Police also added that the detained students are affiliated to parties.
The Prime Minister and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will be performing Yoga on saffron mats along with 51,000 participants in Lucknow on the third edition of International Yoga Day on Wednesday. The event will commence at about 6.30 am and over 51,000 participants will be brought to the venue in over 1,000 buses.
Earlier in the day, India Today had also reported that there is a possibility of a lone wolf attack during the Yoga day celebrations on June 21. Apart from UP, Delhi, Haryana and Gujarat are also reportedly on the terror radar. It is also being reported that there is a possibility that female suicide bombers could carry out attack on the occasion of International Yoga Day.
Owing to the terror threat ahead of the event, security arrangements in Lucknow have been beefed up. As per reports, 26 superintendents of police, 51 additional superintendents of police, 137 commanding officers, 224 inspectors, 992 sub-inspectors, 163 women sub-inspectors, 295 head constables, 3,700 constables, 480 women constables, 12 traffic inspectors, 157 sub-inspectors of the Traffic Department, 497 traffic constables, 10 central armed guard police and 25 companies of provincial armed constabulary (PAC) are being deployed for Narendra Modi’s visit to Uttar Pradesh.
There are reports that over 400 CCTVs are being installed at the event venue and drones will be used to monitor the security.
