25 dead, 28 injured as wall of marriage hall collapses in Rajasthan

Injured have been referred to various government and private hospitals while some who are critical have been referred to Jaipur, Rajasthan

At least 25 persons were killed and 28 others injured when a wall of a marriage hall collapsed in Bhartapur district late on May 10, police said. The incident occurred at around 10 p.m. in Sewar police station area when a wall of a wedding hall collapsed and people were trapped inside the debris. Injured have been referred to various government and private hospitals while some of the injured who are critical have been referred to Jaipur, a police official said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the next kin of those killed, while Rs 50,000 for those who are seriously injured in the incident.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje is likely to visit the wedding hall that collapsed last night killing 25 people and injuring 28 in Bharatpur. She took to Twitter and expressed grief over the incident.

District Magistrate N.K. Gupta said that the incident was triggered due to a thunderstorm and rainfall in the district.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses told IANS that the wall collapsed due to a thunderstorm that lashed several parts of the state on Wednesday night.
