Pakistani Singer Ali Zafar Accused Of Sexual Misconduct As Fellow Female Singer Says #MeToo

The singer claims that she needed to speak out against the harassment because it would "break the culture of silence that permeates our society

Reports of sexual harassment kept flooding social media even months after the #MeToo movement sparked a revolution of sorts in Hollywood and the world over. However, when we finally thought that the revolution was successful, reports of Pakistani singer Ali Zafar’s sexual misconduct acts as a setback.

Zafar was accused of sexual misconduct by fellow singer Meesha Shafi tweeted her statement claiming that he had sexually harassed her multiple times.

In a Twitter post, Shafi said, “Sharing this because I believe that by speaking out about my own experience of sexual harassment, I will break the culture of silence that permeates through our society. It is not easy to speak out.. but it is harder to stay silent. My conscience will not allow it anymore #MeToo.”

Shafi also posted a letter, where she explained how Zafar had sexually harassed her “despite the fact that I am an empowered, accomplished woman who is known for speaking her mind! This happened to me as a mother of two children.”

The singer claims that she needed to speak out against the harassment because it would “break the culture of silence that peremeates our society”. (sic)

Hinting that there may be more people like her, Shafi said that she felt “betrayed by his behaviour and his attitude and I know that I am not alone.”

Shafi is an actor and musician based in Pakistan, who has featured in movies like “The Reluctant Fundamentalist” and “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”
