IIT Delhi alumnus Akshay Mehndiratta tops CAT 2016, secures 100 percentile

This was Mehndiratta's second attempt and he scored a 99.34 in his first attempt.

IIT Delhi alumnus Akshay Mehndiratta hit the headline for scoring a hundred percentile in the CAT exam this year. His instincts and strategies helped him acquire admission into the prestigious IIM Ahmedabad.

This was Mehndiratta’s second attempt at CAT and he managed to get an overall score of 228.98 with a 100 in overall percentile. Working as a consultant at a private company in Gurgaon, Mehndritta made strategies to strike balance between his CAT preparation and office work.

While speaking to  media house he said that he used to dedicate Saturdays to preparation while on Sundays, he attempted test series to improve his scores for each section of the paper. Regular test practice, assessment and analysis helped him gain confidence.

When preparing for CAT the last time he attempted a test series for about three months and managed to score 99.34 percentile. This gave him the motivation to try his luck again.

While it has become a norm for engineers to either appear for civil services or MBA examination to get that edge over others, Akshay believes that giving CAT would help him up his market value.

The CAT 2016 topper wants to head into the field of finance or pursue a doctorate degree in economics. Mehndritta said that getting into an Indian Institute of Management will be a dream come true and he will choose to pursue Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM).

When asked what advice he would like to give to CAT aspirants he said its important to not just study for the exam, but practice for it. Mehndiratta believes that practicing helps and will give you the confidence to solve questions. He further said aspirants should practice as many mocks  tests as they can and identify the mistakes they are making. After which, he said, aspirants should focus on weak areas and improve them.
