70% of beneficiaries of Mudra Yojana are women: PM Narendra Modi

PM stressed on the need to give more opportunities to woman and bring in gender equality

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday made a strong pitch for gender equality and lauded woman for excelling in all walks of life.

He was addressing Indian merchant Chamber’s Ladies wing on its golden jubilee celebration via video conferencing. IMC is a premier business and professional women’s organisation. It has more than 2200 members, consisting of entrepreneurs, managers, professionals and women from leading business houses.

Congratulating the woman members for their spectacular achievement,Prime Minister said,”Any sector we look at today, women are excelling and performing better day by day.” “From Panchayats to Parliament, wells in villages to Silicon Valley, women are leading from the front,” he added.

Underlining the need to give more opportunities to woman and bring in gender equality, the PM said,” We have recently passed the Maternity Bill. Number of leaves have been more than doubled from 12 to 26 weeks.

PM also said his government has done away with the provision that sought marriage details of woman for issuing passport.

PM also said that over 2 crore women belonging to weaker section of society were provided LPG connection under PM Ujjwala Yojana. He also said that 3 lakh crore has been given in loan in last two years in PM Mudra Yojana and around 70% of people who took loan were woman. He also said that the government has provided loan ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 1 crore for Stand-Up India scheme.
