On Delhi-bound Kalindi Express derailed at the Tundla Junction in Uttar Pradesh on February 20. On December 28, 14 coaches of the Sealdah-Ajmer Express derailed in Kanpur, injuring 63 passengers, of whom 22 suffered serious injuries. The worst accident happened on November 20 when coaches of the Patna-Indore Express derailed in Kanpur Dehat district. At least 147 passengers died, while over 180 were injured. The frequent accidents prompted security agencies to look at the conspiracy angle. At an election rally earlier this year, Prime Minister Narendra himself said that the Kanpur rail accident was a “conspiracy from across the border”.
