In a shocking incident, a Mumbai Police constable has appealed for permission to beg in uniform. Reportedly, Constable Dnyaneshwar Ahirrao had not received his salary in the past two months over leaves he availed to care for his ailing wife.
In a letter that he wrote to his superiors, Mumbai Police Commissioner Datta Padsalgikar and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Ahirrao—attached with Marol local arms unit—sought permission to beg in uniform to be able to manage household expenses and support his family.
In his letter, Ahirrao mentioned that he had taken a leave from March 20 to March 22. However, he failed to report for duty afterwards, stating that his wife had fractured her leg, and needed someone to attend to her.

Subsequently, he resumed duty from March 28. However, the letter adds, that he did not receive any salary thereupon.
“I have to take care of my sick wife, old parents and a daughter. Besides, I have to pay a monthly instalment of the loan I have taken. But since my salary has been stopped, I am unable to meet these expenses. So I want permission from you to beg in uniform,” the letter said.
