In coming days, passengers will have to carry either their passport or aadhaar card as an identity proof even when flying within India. Till now, passports are mandatory for identification purposes while travelling outside India and passport details are needed while booking tickets for abroad.
According to a report published in Times of India, Civil Aviation Ministry is planning to put four level of offences as per the seriousness of the matter – in its proposed no fly list. Also, restrictions will be imposed on the travellers who engage in unruly behaviour with airline staff or other passengers.
“To bring this, we need a foolproof way of identifying passengers. This could be done by asking people to give either their Aadhaar or passport number while they are booking their tickets. One of these two will be chosen.
The draft civil aviation requirement (CAR) will be put out for public discussion possibly next week itself, giving people 30 days to give their suggestions on the same. So coming June or July, we will have the entire thing in place,” said a source.
The move has come after shameful incident took place on March 24, when Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad assaulted 60-year-old Air India official by hitting him 25 times from a sandal. After which, national carrier and other private airlines imposed a flying ban on Gaikwad.
However, few days back Air India and Federation of Indian Airlines which has SpiceJet, IndiGo, Air India and Jet Airways as its members lifted the ban imposed on the MP.
