Absconding Meghalaya MLA Julius K Dorphang arrested for allegedly raping minor girl

The 51-year-old MLA went into hiding after a non-bailable warrant was issued against him for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl.

Absconding Meghalaya MLA Julius K Dorphang was arrested on January 9 for allegedly raping a 14-year-old minor girl. According to reports, the MLA was brought to Shillong by the police after he was arrested in Guwahati.

Dorphang went absconding after a non-bailable warrant was issued against him. Julius K Dorphang represents Mawhati constituency. The girl has reportedly alleged that that 51-year-old Dorphang sexually assaulted her twice. On one instance, he raped her in a resort and on the other, he sexually exploited her in a guest house.

The police registered a case against the MLA under POCSO act and under section 366 (A) of the Indian Penal Code.

According to reports, the accused was allegedly running a sex racket and the victim was in fact, rescued from a resort. The girl even claimed that she was forcefully taken to several resorts and exploited.
