The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), student wing of RSS, has objected to the staging of Bengali writer Mahasweta Devi’s play Draupadi in Central University of Haryana in Mahendragarh district of the state.
According to The Wire, The outfit has termed the play an anti-national act, alleging that it shows Indian soldiers in a poor light.
The ABVP activists lodged a police complaint against the teachers and students having participated in the play, and demanded that they be booked for sedition.
Set in 1971, the play chronicles tribal resistance to exploitation by the zamindars or land-owners.
Meanwhile, the university has set up a six-member committee to investigate into the matter, and sought a fact-finding report by the first week of October.
