After reports surfaced that the Indian railways is likely to stop providing blankets in the AC coaches in some trains amid reports of unhygienic and dirty blankets being provided to the commuters, it has also come up with a temporary solution to complaints of poor quality food on trains. Now, the railways wants to bring your own food while travelling.
A Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report had recently deemed the food served on trains and sold on platforms as “unfit for human consumption”.
According to a News18 report, reacting to the complaints, the Railway Board has asked passengers to bring their own food, at least till railway kitchens are revamped. This, the Board says, may more than a year.
“Passengers should carry their own food. Our kitchens are being revamped and that may take over a year,” AK Mittal, Chairman of the Railway Board, said, according to the News18 report.
The CAG report had said that the food and bottled items that are on sale are unfit for the human consumption. The report revealed that cleanliness and hygiene is one of the major issues in the Indian Railways. The inspection done was CAG and the railways team at 74 stations and 80 trains.
