After Road Washes Away In Kerala Floods, Indian Army Builds 40 Feet Bridge

In Malappuram, one of the districts badly hit by the flood, where a road washed away even as people were watching, the Indian Army Engineering Task Force has come up with a solution.

Due to incessant rains, life has come to a standstill in Kerala. People have lost their lives, their livelihoods, property and more. It will be a while before Kerala recovers from the aftermath of these floods. The Army has once again come to the rescue of those stuck in the floods.

In Malappuram, one of the districts badly hit by the flood, where a road washed away even as people were watching, the Indian Army Engineering Task Force has come up with a solution. They’ve constructed a temporary bridge by using the trees that were brought down by the water. The 40 feet bridge has proved a savior for the locals.

They have also built a makeshift bridge using trees in Wayanad and has rescued around 800 stranded people.

10 columns of Army, personnel from Navy, Air Force and NDRF are together working the rescue operations in different districts of Kerala, including Kozhikode, Idukki, Malappuram, Kannur and Wayanad. They have named it ‘Operation Sahyog’ (cooperation).

On Sunday, Ministry of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj announced that all passports damaged in the floods will be replaced free of cost. Earlier, Chief Minister Vijayan had announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the kin of deceased, and Rs 10 lakh to those who lost their property in the floods.

Around 39 people have lost their lives. There has reportedly been an overall loss of Rs 8,316 crore up till now, while 20,000 houses have been damaged.
