After Ryan horror, 2 girls molested by sweeper in Gurugram school

The incident came to light when the victims revealed their ordeal during a counselling session on 'Good touch bad touch’.

After the distressing Ryan International School incident, while Gurugram parents are still mustering the courage to send their children to school, another shocking molestation case has been reported from another Gurugram school. A 33-year-old sweeper in a Gurugram school has been arrested for allegedly molesting two girls while they were going to the washroom. The incident occurred in Vidya School situated in DLF Phase 3 area of Gurugram and the accused Suresh Kumar was caught on camera trying to hug and molest the girls.

The two victims who are class III students narrated the harrowing experience before school authorities during a counselling session on ‘Good touch bad touch’. Following the horrific incident, the CCTV cameras were checked and the incident came to light. A complaint was registered by the school principal and then action was taken against the accused. He was booked under Section 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the police will record the statement of the students soon. Kumar is a resident of Nathupur village in Gurugram and hails from Jharkhand.

“We conducted an anti-child abuse session in the school wherein the teachers and counsellors spoke about good and bad touch. After seeing the videos, the two girls approached us and said that Suresh misbehaved with them in the toilet,” the complaint stated.

“The victims grabbed their hands and pressed them against their backs to hug them. The girls managed to escape from his clutches” the complaint added.

It should be mentioned that the district administration on September 26 had directed all the schools to submit their safety certificates within 15 days under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPc) for the protection of its students.

The safety of children in schools has become a concern after a Class II student named Pradyuman Thakur was found murdered in the washroom of Ryan International School in Bhondsi on September 8. The police arrested school bus conductor Ashok Kumar who confessed to have murdered the boy after trying to sexually assault him. A three-member SIT had found serious lapses in the school security system which includes proper boundary wall and separate toilets for the school support staff.
