Following a ghastly Naxal attack in Sukma, Chattisgarh that claimed the lives of 25 CRPF jawans, the National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, himself has taken charge to make the strategy to counter Maoists this time after the government sought a report on counter-offensive operations.
Planning for a surgical strike, NSA Doval will hold a meeting through video conferencing on May 2 on Sukma Naxal attack.
According to reports, DG Maoist operation DM Awasthi has already reach Bijapur while Senior Security Adviser in the Home Ministry, Vijay Kumar is in Sukma, after DG NIA, Sharad Kumar submitted its report.
The officers will stay in Chhattisgarh till a robust anti-Naxal operation is carried out against those involved in the killing of 25 CRPF jawans.
Speaking on the blueprint to target Maoists, DG Awasthi said, ‘the construction of the road is most important and that has been put on hold, as we would be requiring jawans to counter the Naxalites in the area.
Around 8000 CRPF jawans have been deployed in Chattisgarh to combat Maoists.
There are about 200-250 leaders of different committees and area commanders of Naxalites in Bastar who keep travelling to Jharkhand, Odisha and Maharashtra for coordination as well as to plan attacks on security forces, sources said.
Recently a attcke took place on 25 personnel of the CRPF’s 74th Battalion as they were assisting the local population in road building activity in Sukma.
About 300 Maoists came down from hilltops and attacked the personnel while they were having lunch. This is said to be one of the worst Maoist attack in the last seven years.
