After working for the development in one of the village in Andhra Pradesh, iconic cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP, Sachin Tendulkar is all set to adopt another village in Maharashtra. Sachin Tendulkar will reportedly adopt Donja village in Osmanabad, Maharashtra under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna.
Over Rs 4 Crore has been sanctioned from Tendulkar’s Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLAD) for Donja. According to reports, Tendulkar has a number of development plans on his mind for Donja including building schools, providing water to each household and also build concrete roads in the village. There exists a school in the village which is 70 years old but according to the plan it shall be replaced.
Special meeting have also been held to discuss the development programmes in Donja under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana with active participation of the women. The initial plan has been drafted tenders will be forwarded after the Zilla Parishad elections in the region. At least 231 toilets have been constructed in the area since Sachin Tendulkar adopted the village.
Since the region has been suffering due to lack of water causing a drought-like situation, Tendulkar has pushed for the availability of potable water for every house in the village. One of the most unique part of the development programme of this village is that women are actively participating in putting forth suggestion in ideas while the cricketer does not wish to leave any stone unturned for effective development in the region. “The collector’s office has been closely working with the villagers and all the efforts are towards a 360 degree development of the village keeping in mind a well balanced socio-economic structure,” Assistant Collector (U/T) Osmanabad District, Ayush Prasad told PTI.
“We are grateful to cricket legend and Rajya Sabha MP Sh. Sachin Tendulkar for choosing a village in Osmanabad District and for being so supportive and committed to its development. We are excited about his vision for the village. We look forward to hosting him at Donja,” he added.
