The Delhi Metro smart card can be used to travel in Rapid Metro also

After two years of delay, the second phase of Rapid Metro is set to be launched at 3 pm on Friday. The metro line will connect Sikanderpur to Sector 55-56 along Golf Course Road.

The new metro line will be a huge relief to officegoers in the area who had no other option but to depend on autos and buses. The traffic on the route often forces people to be on the road for hours. Authorities have claimed that the metro journey will take only 10-12 minutes. The Delhi Metro smart card can be used to travel in Rapid Metro also.

Beginning from Sikanderpur, the phase 2 metro line is a 7km corridor straight Golf Course Road to the DoubleTree hotel in Sector 55/56. The stations on this route include DLF Phase-1, Sushant Lok, Sector 53-54 (South Point Mall) and Sector 54 Chowk. The metro line is close to several localities and societies in the area making it easier for more people to be connected to the metro.

Rapid Metro’s first phase is a 5.1 km loop from Sikanderpur, through Cyber City. The ridership in the small phase 1 route was way short of estimates but it is likely to go up in the second phase.

Initially, the trains are expected to operate at a frequency of 4-5 minutes but may be increased based on the requirement. There are 12 trains that will be used by the Rapid metro and two of them will be kept on standby. The two metro depots are located near Cyber City and near Sector 54 chowk.
