The 4000- km range nuclear weapons-capable strategic missile Agni- IV has been successfully test fired as part of a user trial from Balasore in Odisha.
The surface-to-surface missile was flight tested from launch complex-4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at about 11:55, at Dr Abdul Kalam Island formerly known as Wheeler Island.
The Agni-IV missile launched today is equipped with modern and compact avionics to provide high level of reliability.
It also has the latest technology to guide and correct itself during in-flight disturbances.
In December 2016 India had fired nuclear capable ballistic missile Agni-V with a range of over 5,000 kms covering whole of China, from Abdul Kalam island off Odisha coast.
