The half-day’s off for Friday namaaz in Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is likely to end soon. The varsity may do away with the practice amid its proposal to function on a five-day week schedule. Therefore half day off on Friday will be replaced by hour-and- a half break to offer Friday Namaz.
According to a report published in the Times of India, Tariq Mansoor, the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of the university said, “All central universities function on a five-day week schedule. To compensate for the loss of study and work hours due to the Saturday and Sunday holidays, the university’s daily work timings will be increased by an hour and 15 minutes, making it functional from 8 am to 5:15 pm”.
He added that the university is planning to implement the decision from the coming session. Meanwhile, students and the teachers have applauded the decision taken by the university authorities. President AMUTA, Mustafa Zaidi said that it is indeed a welcoming step. He said that with two consecutive offs, teachers and students will be able to spend more time with families. On increase in the number of working hours, Mustafa Zaidi said, it is not an issue as students and teachers will get two consecutive offs every week.
Same are the views of the Aligarh Muslim University Students Union (AMUSU) president, Faizul Hasan, who said there are many students who are staying away from their families, therefore, two consecutive offs will give them an opportunity to go and visit their families.
