In a major boost to India’s defence artillery, Agni V, the indigenous intercontinental ballistic missile, was successfully test fired from Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast. With a range of around 5000 km, Agni V can carry a 1.5-ton warhead, making it the most lethal weapon in India’s armoury till date.
DRDO has also developed its canister-launch version which means it can be transported and fired from anywhere. Once Agni V is inducted, India will join the elite league of countries that have missiles with a range of over 5,000 km which includes Britain, China, France, Russia and the US.
