Frightened with her past marriage experiences, a woman in Uttar Pradesh is terrified that if she is given talaq for the fourth time then she would have no place to live. In last 12 years, she had been given talaq thrice, it was last year in July when she got married for the fourth time.
According to a report in the Times of India, Tara Khan’s first marriage was fixed with Zahid Khan, a resident of Tahaka Nagaria village in Bareilly. “As we never had kids in seven years of marriage, my husband married a younger woman and gave me triple talaq,” said Tara.
After which her aunt got her married with Pappu Khan who lives in the Ghunsa village, Tara said, “Pappu would often misbehave with me. One day when I resisted, he gave me talaq”. Her marriage with Pappu lasted for three years.
After the divorce, she stayed with her maternal uncle, who advised her that life is long and she would need a partner. They then fixed her marriage with Sonu from Ghundapur. “On their persuasion, I married Sonu. One day he assaulted me and left me at the house of my uncle. Before leaving he gave her triple talaq at the gate”, he said.
For the fourth time, she married Shamshad alias Nanhe in July last year. “Shamshad behaves like the others. My five brothers who believe that I have brought embarrassment to the family do not want to keep me either. I do not want this marriage to end, come what may. Where does a Muslim woman go? I have had enough trouble in the last 12 years and I cannot fight anyone or anything anymore.” Tara said.
Meanwhile, Shamshad said that he is out of the station and can’t comment on it right now. Earlier, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu had said that triple talaq is not a religious issue as it has no sanction in Shariat.
