The Home Ministry on January 30 announced that Amulya Kumar Patnaik, has been appointed as the new the commissioner of the Delhi Police. Amulya previously held the position of the special commissioner before he was appointed as the Delhi Commissioner.
Amulya has replaced Alok Kumar Verma, who was recently appointed as the CBI chief, earlier this month.Patnaik is a 1985 batch Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre IPS officer. Patnaik hails from the state of Odisha and is an IPS office of AGMUT cadre and has also served as the joint commissioner (operations) in Delhi police.

Apart from Patnaik, the other IPS officers who were considered for the post of Delhi Commissioner were Dharmendra Kumar and Dipak Mishra. However, reports suggest that Patnaik made it to the final cut because of his clean image.
