Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has been arrested by police ahead of his visit to violence-hit Mandsaur region in Madhya Pradesh. Confirming the report, Neemuch SP said the Congress leader has been arrested for breach of peace. The Congress leader tried to break past police barricades to enter Madhya Pradesh, PTI reported. Taking potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, The Congress leader said, “PM Modi doesn’t waive off farmer loans, doesn’t give them benefits, only gives them bullets.” The Congress-vice President was taken away in a bus marked with MP Police insignia.

A high voltage drama unfolded at Nimuch near Rajasthan- Madhya Pradesh border when local administration tried to stop Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi and his convoy from visiting violence hit Mandsaur. A furious Rahul stormed out of his four-wheeler and pushed a cop who was trying to stop his convoy from moving further. “Aap kaise rok sakte ho (How can you stop me),” an angry Rahul Gandhi is seen lashing out at a policeman. He later climbed on a bike to make his way to Mandsaur where he is expected to meet the family of five farmers killed in police firing on Tuesday.

The Congress vice president alo tweeted that the MP government is trying their best to stop him from entering Mandsaur. Gandhi was also accompanied by PCC Rajasthan chief Sachin Pilot and other party leaders, including Digvijay Singh, Girija Vyas, Kamalnath.

Meanwhile, the BJP led Madhya Pradesh government maintains that the state is peaceful and that Congress is merely playing politics over the farmer crisis. BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao has alleged that Rahul Gandhi is indulging in political tourism, he is playing politics in the name of farmers. Five persons were killed on Tuesday as the farmers’ agitation turned violent in Mandsaur, prompting the authorities to clamp curfew in the trouble-hit area.
