Arvind Kejriwal to use public money to pay legal bills, Twitter says ‘drama continues’

Ram Jethmalani has made 11 appearances so far in the court representing Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, leading to a total of Rs 3.42 Crore

With Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections just around the corner in the national capital, Chief Minister of Delhi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal has landed in trouble again. According to a Times Now report, Kejriwal, who filed a defamation case against Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, has written a letter to the Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal seeking his permission to use public money to pay for his court battles.

AAP govt seeking permission to use public money to court pay bills has created a row.

According to reports, the Delhi government informed Baijal that it was necessary for the administrative department to engage Ram Jethmalani to represent Kejriwal in court.

Being one of India’s most expensive lawyers, Ram Jethmalani, has raised a bill of Rs 1 crore. According to The Times Of India, the bill raised by Jethmalani on 1 December, 2016, quotes Rs 1 crore retainer for representing Kejriwal and an additional Rs 22 lakh per appearance.

Jethmalani has made 11 appearances so far in the court, leading to a total of Rs 3.42 crore.

Earlier, Kejriwal was accused of corruption when it was reported that he had constituted a feedback unit which had used Rs 50,000 from the public exchequer.

Arun Jaitley had filed a case against Kejriwal after he had accused him of financial irregularities when he was president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). He has sought Rs 10 crore in damages in the cases filed in 2015.

Soon after the news about Ram Jethmalani charging huge amount to represent Kejriwal in the court broke, micro blogging site Twitter got flooded with the reactions. Here are the few of them:

Ram Jethmalani charges 22 lakhs for every session he appears in court for you + 1 crore retainer. That’s more expensive than Ranveer singh

Kejriwal getting Govt to pay Ram Jethmalani in private case, is like building hotel on pvt land & making Govt/PWD ministry pay

Corruption.
