Body of a army major recovered as avalanche hits army camp in Sonamarg district of Jammu and Kashmir. Army sources say that death toll could rise.
Eight army men were successfully rescued in the search operations and the search operations are over.

Operations at the Srinagar airport are also suspended following a heavy snowfall.
On January 19 after the warning of avalanche, police in Jammu and Kashmir had launched a rescue operation in Kulgam and rescued 80 people including 33 children.
Earlier too, on January 18 avalanche warning was issued for 24 hours in some districts of Jammu and Kashmir. People were instructed to not go into these areas.
Last year in February Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad died after been miraculously rescued by the security forces. He was buried under 25 feet of snow for six days in Siachen. The 33-year-old soldier’s liver and kidney were dysfunctional.
