Union minister Babul Supriyo was attacked with stones allegedly by Trinamool Congress supporters during a rally in West Bengal’s Asansol district. “I am being hit with stones, there is no security. The policemen are just standing with me,” he told reporters.
Babul Supriyo is currently the minister of state for heavy industries and public enterprises in the Narendra Modi government. He is a sitting Lok Sabha MP from Asansol in West Bengal, having defeated Trinamool Congress candidate Dola Sen in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He was inducted into the union cabinet as minister of state for urban development as well as housing and poverty alleviation on November 9, 2014.
Later, Supriyo’s portfolio was shifted to heavy industries and public enterprises.
Before being a politician, Supriyo had a successful playback singing career, having lent his voice to Hindi, Bengali and Odia songs.
