Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday dared new Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to ban liquor and set up an “anti-Daru squad” on the lines of the much hyped anti-Romeo squad.
“Liquor is dangerous, it pollutes health and society. Yogiji don’t divert people’s attention and constitute anti-Daru squad (anti-liquor squad),” Tejashwi, the younger son of Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, told media here.
Tejashwi said if Adityanath is a ‘Yogi’ and an honest advocate of religion, he should order a total liquor ban in Uttar Pradesh like in Bihar.
The Nitish Kumar-led Grand Alliance government enforced total prohibition on April 5 last year in the state.
After his appointed as the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has BUP, he has asked police officials to set up anti-romeo squad in order to take action against those who harass girls and women in public places.
A police said earlier we used to give strict warning to eve-teasers and asked them to mend their ways but after anti-Romeo, if we find someone harassing or teasing a girl then cases are being filed against eve-teasers. under sections 294 (Obscene acts and songs) 268 (creating public nuisance) of IPC.
Reacting on anti-Romeo squad a police official said, “We want women to approach the police without fear and move freely in the city,”
Few days back, UP Director General of Police (DGP), Javeed Ahmed had said, “Through this squad, we are not trying to harass people but we are trying to take action against those who are harassing others.”
