Now, those Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) leaders who are more than 40 years of age will not be able to be a part of the party’s youth wing, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM). The party has notified all its units (central and state) about the new rule that no office bearer in the youth wing can be of more than 40 years. The letter regarding the same was also sent to the youth wing leaders of the party.
Rule 75, the unwritten but a commonly known rule in the party does not allow veterans from obtaining active political posts. As per a report in New18.com, a BJP leader said that the problem of age in the youth wing first surfaced when the Bihar unit of the party was formed. He added that “most of the office bearers were anything but young”.
After the incident came to light, the chief of Bihar Yuva Morcha and Patna MLA, Nitin Naveen was asked to take proper steps to get rid of it. Those office bearers who were not-so young- immediately took steps in order to hide their actual age. As most of them are active on social media, they change their date of birth on the Facebook page so as to claim exemption.
