Bravest man in India: Twitter hails the judge who convicted Ram Rahim of rape

The special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Panchkula on Friday pronounced Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh guilty in a 2002 rape case and ordered him to be taken into judicial custody. The court will pronounce the quantum of sentence on August 28. According to reports, Singh will be taken to Ambala jail.

Amid reports of violence, the social media users are hailing the verdict and are praising the judge, who held the godman guilty in the case. Special CBI Judge Jagdeep Singh delivered a guilty verdict in the rape case filed against Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

Jagdeep Singh made it to the national headlines in the past after he saved the lives of four people who had been seriously injured in a road accident. Singh, who is currently the additional district and sessions judge in CBI’s Panchkula court, had ensured then that the injured persons were taken to hospital in his private vehicle.

Hailing from Haryana, he was designated as the judge of the CBI special court in 2016. A 2002 law graduate from the Punjab University, Singh has practised as both civil and criminal lawyer in the Punjab and Haryana Court.

The Dera Sacha Sauda chief appeared in person before the court to face the verdict in the case against him. There has been tension in Punjab and Haryana, where the sect has a huge following with thousands of Dera followers in Panchkula.

Following the verdict, stone pelting has been reported in Sirsa by angry Dera Sacha Sauda supporters. Around 3 media OB vans have been completely damaged. Heavy lathi charge, tear gas, and water cannons are being used by security personnel to control the situation. Mobile internet services have also been suspended for 72 hours. The authorities have restricted movement of trains and buses towards Panchkula.
