15 minor boys, aged 6-12, from a meditation institute in Bodh Gaya, have alleged physical and sexual abuse by a Buddhist monk cum director. Following the complaint, the Bihar Police detained the accused for interrogation on Wednesday.

The child monks from Prasanna Jyoti Buddhist School and Meditation Centre in Mastipur complained against Bhante Sanghpriya, who runs the mutt. Reportedly, Sanghpriya forced the minor victims who belong to Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, to perform unnatural sex with him.
The Hindu reported Deputy Superintendent of Police, Rajkumar Shah as saying,
“The child monks had complained to their respective guardians about physical and sexual abuse by their head monk. They also informed us that they were thrashed, mistreated and sexually abused while staying in the school. We are investigating the matter now.”
PTI reported that, “the children are being questioned by the SHO of Mahila Thana. They will be produced before a magistrate tomorrow and their statements recorded under the relevant CrPC section. They will also be taken for medical tests based on the results of which a case may be lodged against the monk.”
The Buddhist monk has been taken into custody.
