Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), which recently made headlines after the event in which “anti-national” slogans were allegedly raised by the students, was on April 3 ranked as high as number six in the university rankings announced by the Union Human Resource Development Ministry (MHRD).
Besides JNU, Jadavpur University, which grabbed the limelight after groups of student clashed over the screening of a political film last year, was ranked at number 12.
Reacting on this, HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said: “JNU and Jadavpur University didn’t get rankings for Afzal Guru or anti-India slogans but for the good work done by students.”
JNU was embroiled into the controversy last year over a protest organised by students against the hanging of Afzal Guru that drew charges of sedition on some of its students.
