Soon after the Uttar Pradesh UP Board Class 10 Results 2017 were declared it was revealed that over 5 lakh students who appeared for UP Board Class 10 exams failed in Hindi. UP Board Class 10, 12 results were declared by the state board on June 9 on their official website.
According to a Times of India report, out of the 29 lakh students who appeared for the Hindi exams, 23. 5 lakh students managed to clear the exam, while the rest of them were unsuccessful in doing so. Additionally, the report further stated that while the pass percentage of Hindi was 81.28%, the pass percentage for English in Class 10 exams stood at 81.46%.
Expressing disappointment over the recent figures, the officials asserted that the figures were indeed “disturbing”. “5.23 lakh failures this year is a disturbing figure,” the daily quoted R P Mishra, state secretary, UP Secondary Education Teachers’ Association as saying.
In the year 2015, 1 lakh out of 43.74 lakh students who appeared for the Hindi exams failed. Whereas in 2012, 3 lakh students failed in Hindi language paper. Nearly 3.4 million students appeared for the UP Board Class 10th exam, 2.6 million students took the UP Board Class 12th exam in 2017.
While the pass percentage for Class 10 was 81.6 per cent, Class XII pass percentage stood at 82.5 per cent. The UP Board results that are usually released within the month of May were delayed this year. The officials who were taken by surprise following the results asserted that remedial classes should be conducted for Hindi in several schools in the state. They further added that while making the English language mandatory from Class 1 was appreciate, the government should also take measures to make sure the students are learning the Hindi language too.
