Cauvery dispute: Karnataka to release 3,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu till September 30

The Cauvery Supervisory Committee on Monday directed Karnataka to release 3,000 cusecs of river water till September 30.

“Karnataka will have to release 3000 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu daily between September 21 and 30,” Union Water Resources Secretary Shashi Shekhar told ANI.

“SC order is for Karnataka to release 12,000 cusecs of water till 20th September, my order is from 21st till 30th,” Shekhar added further.

On September 5, the Supreme Court had asked Karnataka to release 15,000 cusecs of water to its neighbouring state, triggering violent protests.

A week later, the apex court modified the order asking the state to release 12,000 cusecs of water, in reply to the petition filed by Karnataka a day earlier.
