The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the Karnataka government to release 6,000 cusecs of Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu for three days from today, ANI reported.
The court also asked the Attorney General to facilitate a meeting between executive heads of both the states and the Centre to resolve the issue.
The next hearing on the case is scheduled to be held on Friday.
Karnataka has said its citizens would go thirsty and crops in the state will be ravaged if it releases any more water to Tamil Nadu.
Over the past month, both states are fighting a legal battle in various courts over the sharing and distribution of Cauvery waters.
